Counselling Crook - County Durham
Hi, I am a Humanistic Counsellor who believes that people can grow and reach their true potential. We all struggle from time to time, having a safe place to explore and express can be the first steps to putting changes in play and moving forward in a more pro active way.
Having a safe space to look at ways of changing behaviours and thoughts, to recognise what you want and your abilities to aim for them. Counselling is your space, just for you. How many times in day to day life do we get that space?
About me
I am an MBACP Accredited Counsellor with many years experience. I have worked in many areas of Counselling - domestic abuse - Mind charity, working in different sectors with mental health - Carers support - the terminally ill (also the families) - Work place counselling to name a few.
I have also trained in other theoretical backgrounds so I can work around your needs in a way that can suit you.
I am also a Mindfullness trainer. This is something I can integrate into sessions if you would like to learn more about breath work, being in the moment etc, which can help with anxieties/busy minds.
You are always at the centre of the work done, giving freedom to you to make informed choices about what you want and how you want to use sessions.
I have worked with many issues over the years from anxiety/depression - bereavement - life changes - personal relationships - past issues/abuse - work issues - OCDs - personal blocks ect. the list is varied.
I am passionate about giving you the best possible space to learn about yourself and grow.
If you would like to know more or book an appointment, please send me a message.

Specialisations and Expertises
Most common is low mood/anxiety. I usually have clients from 4/10 sessions (sessions are 50 minutes to an hour). The client has usually built up their tool kit and have more self confidence to work with what we have done by themselves after this time.
Bereavement - 5/10 sessions. Clients process their grief and move towards acceptance and an understanding of their feelings.
Trauma - 8/12 sessions - depending on the trauma. Sometimes this can be complex and in those cases, a referral may be needed to a more focussed therapeutic structure (EMDR, psychiatric ect.) however, many traumas are worked with within sessions and client can gain a healthier perspective of the event.
Sexuality 8/10 sessions - clients sometimes need a safe space to look at how they feel, what their thoughts mean and find ways that allows them autonomy and what is best for them moving forward.
My aim is to give space for the client to explore. express and work with their strengths and abilities to come to an informed choice for themselves. Some clients need more time than others but I have never had any client go above 20 sessions (20 is rare but there have been instances where another issue has occured while in therapy that needs addressing)
Most common issues I support people with:
Anxiety and low moods are common for a human being to have. Techniques, changing negative thought patterns are a way of viewing these issues from a different perspectve and moving forward with a tool kit that clients can work with and build upon.
Life changes - work - relationships - health. These can have a dramatic impact on people, moving with a problem to solution focus can help clients re set their mind to how they want to move forward that suits their needs and works with their abilities.
Past historical issues - these can have an underlying effect on self esteem, anger issues, communication skills, the way a person sees their own value. having a space to clarify what is thought, what is reality and focus on themselves and self care/value.
Bereavement - giving a space to acknowledge what this means to the person, explore feelings and thoughts, allowing them to process grief.
Mental Health disabilities - ADHD, Autism spectrum, bipolar. these can have an effect on a person who feels isolated by their disability and a sense of not being heard/seen/understood. looking at ways of managing behaviours/self care and acceptance that we are all different.
