Roxanne | Counsellor and Psychotherapist

(Online) Counselling Hackney - London

I often describe therapy as trying to tidy a messy room. When you want the room to look tidy quickly, you can shove things into cupboards and wardrobes and it will look clean, but the clutter is still there. Therapy requires you to pull items out of their hiding place, sort through them, and then tidy them away properly, or discard them if they no longer fit. Doing this alone can be overwhelming, but with a therapist at your side, it can be much more manageable. Together, we can find a sense of order.

I have always been drawn to helping people understand themselves better and find ways to cope, and my journey into becoming a therapist was sparked whilst working in wellbeing in secondary schools. One of the things I bring into my therapy work from my time working in school is the idea that in order for the relationship to be effective, I need to walk alongside you. Yes, I am the therapist, but you are the expert in your life, and it’s our collaboration that makes the therapy really work.

In our therapy sessions, I follow your lead. It might be that you want to talk about something that's taken place over the last week, or dig deeper to unpack some things from further back. The time is yours to go where suits you. If you've not sure where to begin, I might ask some exploratory questions to begin with, and allow the work to flow organically.

I tend to give you space to do the talking, which might feel strange if you're usually the person what listens to others.

In terms of tasks between sessions, I tend to suggest things if it comes up in our work that there is something that might be beneficial. It's not homework, simply a suggestion, and if you feel it doesn't work for you, I encourage you to feed that back to me.

If you would like to work with me, the first step is to request a free consultation which will take place via phone or online. After that consultation, If you are happy to proceed, sessions will take place either in person or online via Google Meet.

Online therapy brings the benefits of therapy directly to you, wherever you are. Enjoy the flexibility of sessions from your own space. With Google Meet, our sessions are private and personalised just for you.

Specialisations and Expertises

I work with a broad range of issues, but am particularly skilled at helping people set boundaries, express their needs, and break free from people-pleasing patterns. I offer both short-term therapy, which is more focussed work, and open-ended therapy, which can run for as many sessions as you feel are necessary.
