Louisa | Therapist & Mentor

Therapy Bishop's Stortford

Hi, I’m Louisa. I work alongside clients to promote their independence and understanding, to make sense of their own experiences and learning in their lives, and to pursue their personalised goals, via individualised sessions. I intend to lend my full support to breaking free from barriers, enhancing clients’ well-being, and building a life aligned with values that matter to them.

As a therapist and mentor, I work with clients on a one-to-one basis, working alongside them to understand their needs and to put together support that recognises their individual requirements. My support could be described as a trusted therapeutic mentorship that aims to increase flexibility in behaviour and psychological level, thus leading to mindful living.

My approach to therapy is

  • Person-centred — meaning that support are always guided by each client’s specific needs, requirements and values which are the centre of the support; sessions are individualized that the experience would be unique to each client
  • Cooperative — we will work together towards a shared aim; your feedback contributes to the support and is highly valued
  • Taking care of both our behaviours and minds, which play important parts in building a life that is meaningful to the client

I have extensive experience in working with individuals from school age to adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, developmental delays, Special Educational Needs (SEN), their parents and family members and people around them.

As a supplier, as Specialist Mentor – Mental Health (SM-MH), registered on the Non Medical Helper (NMH) Supplier List managed and owned by the Department of Education (DfE), I also serve students in Higher Education up to 52 years old with mentoring services.

Some example areas that I support:

  • Reflecting on experiences
  • Setting personalised goals
  • Developing problem-solving skills and organisational skills that work for the clients
  • Self-management
  • Self-care
  • Finding balance between different areas and activities of daily living
  • Coping and managing strategies for anxiety, stress, mood, etc.
  • Improving clients’ confidence and building on their strengths
  • Preparing for new experiences

My support is available for individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of whether there are any diagnoses or not. I place strong emphasis on cultural and ethnic diversities. Your right to confidentiality is strictly protected.

Specialisations

I specialize in supporting individuals to develop skills and strategies to break unworkable habits, overcome barriers, start and maintain healthy new behaviors, enhance health and well-being, handle stress, improve performance, increase resilience and build better relationships with the people in their lives etc., depending on the values that matter to them.

It’s based on a behavioural and psychological model known as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a science-based approach with significant evidence that shows its effectiveness in helping people with a wide range of issues.

Expected number of sessions varies and depends on each individual and the challenges they face; ranging from a few sessions to continuous support with various frequencies. Discussion on this will be held and recommendations will be given throughout the support, however, decisions regarding starting, pausing, resuming and ending support are left to the discretion of the client.
