Trisha | Counsellor (Person-Centred Integrative)

Counselling Dalton-in-Furness

We all sometimes hit road-blocks in our lives which throw us off course, and if you need a little help to get back on track, talking to a counsellor who can support and understand you, can be a really good way to face whatever is in your way, and start to live your life as you choose again.

I work with you to help you understand how you feel about any problems or difficulties you are facing and then we look together at what options you have and how you can implement these. I have an open and accepting nature and can rapidly build a trusting relationship with clients of any age, from 15 years and upwards. I have extensive experience of working with clients, and I have a good understanding of the range of problems people can face which may bring them to counselling.

I view everyone as an individual and prefer to work with the whole client, rather than trying to label them or their problems.

I am a Senior Accredited BACP Counsellor which means that I am registered with the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), who have assessed my qualifications and experience to be of a higher standard. I am also now registered with NCPS  (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society).  I offer remote sessions (see below), as well as seeing clients in person if you are able to travel to see me. I am based in Dalton-in-Furness and there is on street parking available immediately outside. I am also close to good public transport links, both bus and train.

I believe the relationship between client and counsellor is very important, and it is only by engaging with each other that we can assess the strength of this. Because of this, I recommend that we arrange a first FREE contact meeting usually over the phone where we can explore a little around what you want from the counselling and I can summarize the main points of my contract. This first meeting would usually be about 15 minutes long, and we can then arrange a first appointment where we can go into your needs in more depth.

If you would like to know more or book an appointment, please send me a message.

Online therapy

For remote work, I use phone for Audio Calls, and Zoom for video calls.  This is because I have found Zoom to be very secure and so I am able to offer you the most confidential service.

I am qualified in working online with clients and am registered with ACTO (Association of Counsellors and Therapists Online).

Qualifications and registrations

I qualified as a counsellor in 2004 having studies to honours degree level in this.  Since then I have undertaken a huge amount of additional training to ensure that I am kept informed of current developments within the UK.

Membership of Professional Bodies
I became Senior Accredited with the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in 2014, and undertook specific training in working remotely as a counsellor using phone and video calls in 2020. At that time I became registered with ACTO (Association of Counsellors and Therapists Online).I have recently registed with the NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society).

Specialisations

Over the past 20 years as a Counsellor, working both within the NHS, with CAMHS, and in private practice there are very few issues I have not worked with, and feel that applying the Person-Centred approach there are really no issues with which I cannot work.

Most common issues I support people with:

Anxiety, and its root causes, so it is not just a "sticking plaster" but that you can actually resolve the issue.

Depression - we all suffer from low mood at times, and we can become stuck in this, which then becomes more deep seated.  Again, delving underneath the presenting issues to work out why this has impacted us, and working on finding more joy and meaning in one's current life irrespective of what else we have been through, can take us to a better state of mind.

Identity - including gender, sexuality, confidence, self-esteem, life roles, and helping you to identify that you have choices within everything you do.

Loss and Bereavement and the impact of these on our wellbeing and state of mind.  We all face loss at some point in our lives and becoming resillient allows us to have the strength to face these losses and find a way to become ourselves again.

Trauma - Living presents us with traumas, either with a "Big T" or a "Little t", the question is how we cope with these.  Whether you see your trauma as big or little, if you are strugling with this, it is a valid subject for counselling.  Being able to explore this honestly and openly with a counsellor can allow you resolve these traumas in a way that works for you at your current life stage.

Fees

I charge £50 per session of 50 minutes for individuals, after a first free contact of about 15 minutes to ensure that you feel comfortable talking with me.
