Alexander | Integrated Counsellor

Integrated Counselling Kilmarnock

My name is Alex, I am a qualified integrated counsellor and a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling Psychotherapy). You’ve taken the first step by getting this far, feel free to search this page for more information about how I can help you or please contact me for a short no obligation chat.

We all have times in life when things can feel challenging and overwhelming, when we might feel anxious or low. For example, this might relate to issues at work, relationships, family dynamics or ill health and bereavement. Or perhaps dealing with neurodiversity, for instance dyslexia, of which I have both personal and professional experience. It can be helpful at times like these to take support from those we are close to, but it can also be helpful to talk to someone outside our immediate support to help us get a fresh perspective on what is going on and how we might begin to address things. This is where counselling can help.

For me counselling is, to put it plainly, a form of talk therapy. As a counsellor I will be warm, responsive, and non-judgmental to help form a counselling relationship with you. This relationship is important for you to feel comfortable enough to speak to me openly and for us to build mutual trust.

You may be unsure as to whether you need counselling or not but the reality is, the only person who knows if you’re ready for that step is you & by reading this page, perhaps you have taken the first step. It is understandable to have doubts or questions and I am happy to discuss these with you during a free, no obligation chat about whether this might be right for you or not.

There is no minimum or maximum amount of sessions you have with counselling, it is what is right for you personally and you can stop at any time you choose. Your counselling is confidential with a few exceptions w
here I have obligations under Law and Safe-Guarding but I can explain more about this when we speak.

Online therapy

I offer online counselling to all my clients and I use an app called Doxy for this. Doxy is an industry standard confidential, encrypted application specifically designed with healthcare in mind that is easy for us both to use. I can also use Zoom, Skype or Teams if that is your preference.

When using Doxy once we make an appointment to talk online, I will send you a link either via email, text or Whats App & all you need to do is click on that link when your appointment time is due. You don't need to download anything beforehand. When you click the link, it will take you into a virtual waiting room until our appointment starts, and I will let you in to your session with me.

To get the best out of our sessions you should be in a quiet room with no distractions. You need to be on your own and not overheard so you can focus on you alone and not be disturbed. That will also help us maintain the confidentiality that is so important to our counselling relationship.

If you are having online sessions, a stable Wi-Fi connection is important - and that includes me!

You don’t have to know all the theory to start or complete your counselling journey but if you are interested, there is a bit more detail below.

It was an approach developed by the American Counselling Psychologist, Carl Rogers in the 1940’s. It is grounded in the idea that people are inherently motivated towards positive psychological functioning. Is a non-directive form of talk therapy where you act as an equal partner in the process whilst your therapist is non-directive.

Some benefits of person centered counselling can include:

  • overcoming depression, anxiety, grief, or stress
  • strengthening trust in yourself and others
  • achieving better self-awareness
