Online Pluralistic Counselling Wishaw
My name is Margaret, I am a qualified, experienced counsellor who has experience working with a wide variety of people who have many different reasons for seeking help. Before I qualified as a Therapeutic Counsellor I worked in the helping professions in the areas of mental health and learning disability for fifteen years. Since qualifying, my main focus and experience has been in trauma recovery. I have a passion for helping people grow to where they want to be.
Our sessions will have a pluralistic focus which means we will work in collaboration with each other, where your input into what works for you, balanced with my training and experience of what may be helpful and safe, will determine the pace, input and nature of the therapy.
I offer an open and safe space where you can be heard without judgement. I offer an invitation to talk through your emotions, relationships, patterns of behaviour, beliefs and their origins. This can help you discover new ways of experiencing that can move you towards the life you would like for yourself.
My aim is to facilitate the process by listening deeply to try to truly understand and feed back to you so that you can see things from a different perspective, and get to know how they affect your life. By talking through and understanding yourself, learning why you may react in ways that are holding you back, you can begin to build a more positive relationship with yourself and live your life the way you would like to.
I work from the perspective that you are the only one who truly knows you. I am guided by you and your preferences for the way we work together, whether you feel more suited to having space to explore yourself, guided exploration of your past and inner self or more interactive strategies to work with. Together, we can work towards the person you want to be through understanding, increasing self-awareness, building self-esteem, finding more helpful patterns and developing your relationship with yourself.
I have undertaken specific training to practice online, telephone and email counselling with an Advanced Certificate in Online Counselling. I hold a Level 2 Professional Membership of ACTO (Association for Counselling and Therapy Online).

Whilst my therapy has lasted a good while, there are few sessions we have where nothing very significant emerges. I find most sessions helpful. Margaret is skilled in helping me explore my feelings in a way which is not threatening. I have made significant progress in getting to know and accept myself, after a lifetime of not doing so. I am over 70 now.
Margaret has a way of making me feel valued and acceptable. She gives me enough information about herself for me to appreciate she has personal experience of many of the issues I bring to therapy, but she is wholly focused on me and not on herself. Her willingness to admit vulnerability enhances the therapeutic experience,
I realise it is quite difficult to describe my experience in therapy and do it justice. Perhaps it is sufficient to say that I consider myself very lucky indeed to be having therapy with Margaret.
I appreciate that objectivity is never easy in any therapy relationship, but all I can say is that I am aware of this and generally think I am a person with his feet on the ground!
