Heather | CBT Psychotherapist

Online Psychotherapy Glasgow

Do you feel overwhelmed or anxious? Is it all getting too much at times? Do you feel stuck but don't know how to change? I can offer a supportive, calm, safe environment for you to explore your issues and work towards the best solution for you. I have been working as a psychotherapist since 2009 both in private practice and as an affiliate CBT Therapist with the NHS as well as several Employee Assistance Programmes. I am also an accredited provider for CIGNA Insurance.

It's important to choose a therapist with appropriate training and experience. I have a COSCA accredited Diploma in Counselling and Groupwork - A CBT Approach and I am an Accredited Member of COSCA, the professional body for counsellors in Scotland as well as a Supervisor for trainee and fully qualified therapists.  Although my training is in CBT I use an integrative approach as we are all different and respond to different ways of working.

I have worked with people on a wide variety of issues including OCD, tokophobia (fear of pregnancy and childbirth), general anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, relationships and weight issues. All my sessions are remote so that location is not a barrier for you.

I decided on this profession as having had therapy myself I know that it can make such a difference and I'm passionate about helping others fulfill their potential and not be held back in life by issues that can be dealt with.

Online sessions can be conducted over Zoom, Skype or Microsoft Teams.  I also offer telephone sessions or instant messaging if you prefer.

I offer therapy in

Specialisations

I specialise in anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and tokophobia (a fear of pregnancy and childbirth)

Most common issues I support people with:

Anxiety

Facing your fears and anxiety is a scary thing to do.  That's why I will be alongside you each step of the way, showing  you ways to understand and calm your anxiety and step out of your comfort zone at a pace that suits you.  I work with general anxiety and lots of different phobias and I have a particular specialism in tokophobia, which is a fear of pregnancy and childbirth

OCD
OCD is a complex, overwhelming condition but there are proven techniques to help reset your brain and thought patterns to let go of those compulsions because continuing to give in to them only pulls you deeper down.  I can provide and understanding, supportive environment for you to tentatively take the steps to challenging those obsessions and compulsions using exposure & response prevention

Relationship Issues
Relationships play such a big part in our life.  I can help you understand how you currently relate to others and consider ways to improve our interactions to build more equal, rewarding relationships.

Loss & Grief
Grief is a normal human reaction to loss of any kind.  It is an essential, but uncomfortable, process that we must go through in order to move forward. Moving forward can be scary though and the process of grief itself is a lonely place.  I can offer you a comforting, supportive space to work through those emotions.

Weight Issues
Obesity almost always has an underlying emotional cause but emotional or comfort eating does not solve the original problem, it only adds a secondary problem on top.  I can help you get to the root cause and get on track to a healthier lifestyle.
