Anne | Person-Centred Counsellor
Counselling Dundee
My name is Anne. I work primarily with the Person-Centred approach, which enables you to work at your own pace and to bring whatever you choose to explore to each session. I can offer long or short-term therapy to suit your needs and have experience in a wide range of issues. I also offer Emotion-Focused therapy, which can be useful in dealing with conflicts or dilemmas in the relationships in your life.
I welcome clients in Dundee, Arbroath and online.
Counselling can offer you a safe, confidential space to talk about anything that is on your mind. Sometimes it's easier to chat to someone outside your usual circle of family and friends. You won't be judged or told what to do in counselling, but we can explore your feelings and give you space to work out the best way forward for you as a unique individual.
I have extensive experience of working with sexual abuse survivors, and those struggling with bereavement, illness, depression or self-esteem issues. I can also help with self-development in the workplace.
As well as being a counsellor, I have had a conservatoire training as a musician and work with clients in the performing arts. I have worked with dancers, actors and musicians and those involved in sports. Counselling can help to enhance confidence in performance or to overcome performance anxiety.
I also work with students and can help with study techniques, procrastination and exam nerves and anxiety.
You can contact me for a free, initial chat to discuss your needs.
Online therapy
I work online by Zoom with clients UK-wide. I also offer telephone sessions. Online therapy works as well as face to face and can give you more flexibility with your schedule. You can have sessions in the comfort of your own home and don't need to factor in travel time to and from sessions. It can be particularly useful for anyone with a health condition or disability, or simply if you have a very busy work schedule and family responsibilities.Qualifications and registrations

Specialisations and Expertises
The number of sessions needed varies greatly between individual clients and the issues they are bringing to therapy to work on. We would often complete about 6 sessions in close succession to begin with, then assess how things are going, what has emerged that you feel you need to work with and if you're ready to continue further at this stage. It may be that the sessions can be spread out more as you progress and over time, you might just want to check in every so often for a single top-up session.
We work with your own process at your own pace and you choose what to bring to each session. Some clients don't need many sessions at all to feel better and have a clear direction about how they want to move on in their lives. Others work long-term over many months. It's really your choice and we will collaborate to decide the best plan for you as a unique individual.
Most common issues I support people with:
Bereavement: It's important to have space to work through all the different emotions you experience when you lose someone you love. It takes time to process the loss and work out how to go forward without this person in your life. Counselling gives you the space to talk about all your feelings safely, without needing to put on a brave face or reassure your family and friends that you're coping. It can help you to communicate what you need more clearly.Sexual abuse: The trauma of childhood sexual abuse or sexual assault can have a profound impact on your ability to function well in adulthood and affects all your relationships. Working through the experiences in a safe space with good support can help you heal and gain new perspectives for the future.
Workplace stress: It can really help to speak openly about your experience to someone outside your organisation. You will be listened to without judgement and together we can explore how you can look after yourself and thrive in a stressful work environment.
Codependency: If you are in a relationship or have a family member who is addicted to a substance, alcohol, or with a mental illness or disability, it can be difficult to look after your own needs. Sometimes you might find it hard not to put everyone else's needs before your own, which can lead to depression, anxiety and a loss of your sense of self. Counselling can give you a much-needed space just for you, so that you can work out your own feelings and what you need to feel fulfilled as an individual.
Anxiety:This can take many forms and could be about exam pressures, studying, work, phobias, panic attacks, performance anxiety in the performing arts or sports or having to give presentations at work etc.
Counselling can help you to take a breath and find calmness, so that you're better able to think clearly and make good decisions about your future.
